It was found in 1880 at the western foothills of the Acropolis. On the primary side a scene of the apobates race is portrayed. A charioteer is depicted standing in the box of a quadriga. He is clad in a long chiton and holds the, once painted, horses’ reins. Next to him the apobates with his helmet and shield is shown in the moment he tries to climb back on the chariot that moves fast towards the left.

Originally the base would support a dedication placed in a square cutting, from which only a trace survives. Later on, the base was expanded with the addition of more blocks to its right and left as the clamps on its upper surface testify.
